What it is

Your Sun sign is the zodiac sign the Sun was passing through on the day you were born. It's the answer to "what's your sign?", the one behind the daily horoscope columns, and the first thing most people learn about astrology. Because it only needs a birth date, it's also the one placement nearly everyone can find.

In a chart, the Sun stands for your core self — your vitality, your conscious identity, the organizing center of your experience, and the qualities you're developing over a lifetime.
