Firdaria is a classical timing system that divides life into chapters ruled by the planets. It answers a different question than transits: not "what is happening this week" but "which chapter of your story are you in right now."
How major periods are computed
The order of time lords is set by the sect of your natal Sun (day or night birth). Each planet then governs a fixed span of years, running from birth to the end of life. The Astrology Workbench computes the exact boundaries of every major and minor period from your birth date, time and place, and shows the natal evidence for each one.
Major versus minor periods
The major period sets the theme of the era (for example Mars favours action and push, Saturn favours contraction and responsibility). The minor period acts as a finer beat inside that theme, assigning narrower slices of time to another planet.
How to use it properly
Read the theme of the current major and minor period first, then add transits and progressions to look for triggering dates. Conclusions need multiple layers of evidence, not a single correspondence. Firdaria describes tendencies and themes; it never promises that a specific event will happen on a specific day.
Common misconceptions
Firdaria does not predict events and does not assign luck. The same time lord behaves very differently in different personalities. It is best used to make sense of transitions between phases, not to alarm yourself or force an explanation onto a situation.

Is the minor period more accurate?
They operate at different levels: the major period sets the theme, the minor period slices time more finely within it. Professional practice stacks both rather than rating one as "more accurate".
Does an uncertain birth time ruin the periods?
Usually not for the main order, which depends on the sect of the Sun. House- and angle-based interpretations, however, do depend on accurate time, so readings should keep period background separate from house events.
